What is Waqaf?
In Shariah, the term Waqaf means a voluntary charitable endowment by a Wakif (a donor) of any property held from any arrangement of sales or purchase, inheritance, grant or bequest, from one's personal belongings or wealth in the form of property or cash for Shariah compliant causes.
With Waqf, an asset’s ownership is permanently dedicated to Allah S.W.T ensuring its perpetual use for charity.

The Donor (Waqif)
A person who is independent, reached puberty (baligh), equipped with intellect understanding and is willingly pleased (redha) to Waqaf his/her property or properties.
Must fully possess the Waqaf property, meaning it is free to grant the property to whomever he/she wishes. Voluntary will and is not forced.
The Waqaf Property (Mauquf)
The Waqaf property of the donor (Wakif) and has a value (Mutaqawwin). The use of Waqaf property must be for good purpose and permitted by Islamic Law.

Whether for a specific recipient or more, or non-specific recipients i.e. endowed to specific groups such as the poor

Statement of Waqaf (Sighah)
Akad is required to confirm the Waqaf, made in the form that can be understood or written for a particular purpose of Waqaf.
Through the utterance of either Soreh (a clear pronouncement with specific meanings such as "I intend to Waqaf my house for the poor") or Kinayah (a pronouncement that brings many purposes such as, "My assets are for charity to the poor").

Cash Waqaf are Waqaf received in the form of cash from the public.
The benefits of the Cash Waqaf will be used for the welfare and development of the ummah, as well as channeled and be used for various initiatives for the benefit of the religious and socio-economic development of the ummah such as the construction of schools, mosques, surau and so on.
This method is accessible for everyone and requires no big capital, therefore opening the opportunity to the public to contribute to Waqaf.

1. Who can contribute to Waqaf?
Everyone can contribute towards any participating Waqaf via HLB Connect with a minimum contribution of just RM10.
2. Why should we contribute to Waqaf?
It is a continuous reward for the Wakif, as long as the Waqaf exists, as the benefits from the Waqaf will still accrue to the person even after his or her death. It is an investment for the Hereafter.
Through centuries, Waqaf has been one of the foundations of the Islamic economic system. It provided, amongst others, education, health services, clinics and hospitals, mosques, madrasahs, universities, and several other public utilities.
3. What is Hong Leong Islamic Bank’s role in the Waqaf contribution?
